5 mistakes that kept me fat for years
For three years I thought I was doing everything right. I wasn’t. Here’s what actually held me back — and what finally changed.
1. I drank my calories
Juice, chai with sugar, “healthy” smoothies. Easily 600 calories a day I never counted. The moment I switched to black coffee and water, the scale started moving without me changing anything else.
The fix wasn’t discipline. It was awareness.
2. I trained hard but ate harder
I’d smash a workout and then “reward” myself with a meal that undid all of it. You cannot out-train a bad diet — I learned that the slow way.
3. I chased intensity, not consistency
Three brutal sessions, then a week off because I was sore or busy. Three easy sessions a week that I actually showed up for beat one perfect week a month, every single time.
4. I banned foods
Every food I “wasn’t allowed” became the thing I binged on Friday night. Once I let myself have one free meal a week, the cravings stopped running the show.
5. I only measured the scale
Weight bounces around daily — water, salt, sleep. When I started tracking waist measurement and progress photos instead, I could see the real trend and stopped panicking over noise.
The takeaway: none of these are about willpower. They’re about setting things up so the right choice is the easy choice.
